Using the People List

Overview

The People List is the main place to find, view and manage the people in your Connection Card Pro account.

It uses Connection Card Pro's standard List interface, including Search, Filters, Columns, Saved Views, sorting, selection and bulk actions. This guide focuses specifically on the tools and behavior unique to People.

The same People List interface is also used in other places, including Custom Lists and Group Rosters. Some actions change depending on which type of People List you're viewing.

Where You'll See the People List

The People List can appear in several different contexts.

The most common are:

The basic List interface works the same way in each case, but the available actions may change based on what you're viewing.

For example, removing someone while viewing a Custom List means removing them from that List. Removing someone while viewing a Group Roster means removing their membership in that Group. Neither of those actions deletes the person's record.

Opening and Editing a Person

You can open an individual person's profile directly from the People List.

The Person Profile opens over the List, allowing you to view or work with the person without losing your place in the List behind it.

Depending on your permissions, the person's row actions may include options such as:

The exact actions shown depend on your permissions and the context of the People List.

People-Specific Columns

People records contain a large amount of information, so the People List offers many more optional columns than most other Lists.

Depending on your organization's setup, available columns may include information such as:

Use Columns to keep the List focused on the information you need for the task you're working on.

See Customizing Lists with Columns & Saved Views for help customizing your layout.

Filtering People

The People List includes a wide range of filters because people can be connected to many different parts of Connection Card Pro.

Depending on your account and the type of People List you're viewing, filters may include:

Filters are especially useful before communicating with people, creating an export, viewing people on a map or performing a bulk action.

See Searching, Filtering, Sorting & Grouping Lists for details on applying and combining filters.

Communicating with People

People Lists can connect directly with Connection Card Pro's communication tools.

Depending on your permissions and your organization's communication features, you may be able to communicate with the people in your current results or with a specific selection of people.

Available communication tools may include:

Before communicating with a large group, review your Search, Active filters and selected-person count to make sure you're communicating with the intended people.

Viewing People on a Map

The People List includes a Map option for viewing the geographic distribution of people in the current results.

Search and Filters can be used before opening the Map, making it possible to map a particular segment of your People database rather than everyone at once.

For example, you might filter to a Classification, Group or other set of people before opening the Map.

Only people with usable location information can be displayed on the Map.

Working with Multiple People

Select one or more people to access the bulk tools available for the current People List.

Depending on the List, your permissions and your organization's features, actions may include things such as:

See Selecting Records, Bulk Actions & Exporting Lists for help selecting records and using bulk actions.

Custom Lists and Group Rosters

When the People List is used to display a Custom List or Group Roster, it still represents actual Person records.

The important difference is the context.

Custom Lists

A Custom List is a collection of people. Removing a person from a Custom List removes only their membership in that List.

Their Person record and other connections remain intact.

Group Rosters

A Group Roster shows people connected to that Group.

Removing a person from the roster removes their connection to the current Group. It does not remove their Person record from Connection Card Pro.

Because the People List knows which context you're viewing, the available removal action automatically reflects whether you're working with the overall People database, a Custom List or a Group Roster.

Archive, Remove and Delete

These actions have very different meanings when working with People.

Action What It Does
Remove from Custom List Removes the person from the current Custom List only. The Person record is not deleted.
Remove from Group Removes the person's membership in the current Group only. The Person record is not deleted.
Archive Hides the person from active People Lists while retaining their record. Archived people can be restored later.
Delete / Remove Person Removes the Person record itself. Use this only when you actually intend to remove the person rather than simply remove a List or Group connection.

Always read the confirmation message before completing a removal action, especially when working with multiple selected people.

Importing People and Settings

The People List also provides access to People-specific tools such as importing records and People List settings, where available to your account and permissions.

Import is useful when bringing a larger collection of people into Connection Card Pro from a CSV file rather than creating each Person manually.
